Poppy Radcliffe has taken some time out to talk to me while she is in search of accommodation after being let down with only a week to go before the Edinburgh Fringe begins. Any leads appreciated!
When were you last performing at Edinburgh fringe?
I brought my debut show to Edinburgh 2023. It was the first time I’d ever done a full length show and it was fantastic.
What was the name of your previous show?
My previous show was called SECTIONED.
It was similar in theme to this show but focused more on my story than the policy changes I would enact which is the focus of this year’s show.
How long has your current show been running for?
The Brighton fringe 2025 is the only other place it has been showcased. It won the best neurodiverse performance award there.
Do you have any good luck rituals you undertake before performing?
None that I should admit to publicly!
How have you found booking accommodation this year?
Terrible. I was meant to stay with family as I do every year but my aunt pulled out of hosting me a few weeks before the fringe so I have been scrabbling around the fringe accommodation website. The first place I committed to turned out to be a scam. Other places that I’ve agreed to have then pulled out. I’m currently without accommodation with a week to go! I’m sure it’s better if it’s not so last minute.
What three prices of advice would you give?
1: Enjoy flyering. It’s a great way to meet other performers and engage with the public.
2.See other shows. There are so many amazing shows on. Try and catch at least a couple a day. I was doing 4 a day in 2023 as well as my own but that was arguably too much!
3: The crepe van by St George’s Square. The chicken and siratcha crepe. Yum.
What are your plans after the Edinburgh fringe is over?
Try to make it as a creative, I just lost my day job and so am taking a career break to focus on the creative arts. I’m hoping to put the show on in London.
I’m planning a change in direction and looking to try my hand at standup in the coming year. I’m not sure. I’m hoping opportunities come from Edinburgh.
