Making his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe is comedian Joe Sib. He brings his life of growing up in the 1980’s to the stage with a personal story about growing up on a punk rock-fuelled journey.
Is this your first time at Edinburgh Fringe?
Yes, this is my first time performing at the Fringe, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring California Calling to the festival.
How long have you been preparing your show for Edinburgh?
I’ve been working on this show for a solid year — writing, testing it on stage, shaping the narrative, and making sure it connects with audiences in the most authentic way possible.
What is your motivation to perform there?
For me, it’s about connection. California Calling is a very personal show, and the Fringe is such a unique place where audiences are open-minded and hungry for storytelling. I’m motivated to share this story with people from all over the world and see how it resonates.
What have you done to prepare for the Edinburgh Fringe, emotionally and physically?
Physically, I’ve been making sure to stay healthy — working out, surfing, eating right — because it’s a grind doing that many shows in a row. Emotionally, I’ve focused on getting clear about why I’m doing this. I want to go in with the mindset of enjoying the ride and making the most of the experience.
Have you had any advice from others who have performed at the Fringe?
Yes, I’ve spoken with a lot of comics and performers who’ve done the Fringe. The advice I’ve heard the most is: pace yourself, don’t get too wrapped up in the noise, and focus on making your show the best it can be for the right audience. That stuck with me.
Have you visited Scotland or Edinburgh before?
I’ve been to Scotland briefly, but this will be my first proper stay in Edinburgh. I’m looking forward to getting to know the city and the vibe of the festival.
How have you found booking accommodation?
It’s been a bit of a challenge — everyone says that’s the case! But I’m locked in a place, and I’m all set. Now I’m just focused on the show itself.
What plans do you have for your show after the Edinburgh Fringe is over?
After the Fringe, I’d love to continue touring California Calling in the US and possibly bring it to other parts of Europe. The goal is to keep growing the show and reaching new audiences.
