Two scientists are preparing to take their children’s show to the Edinburgh Fringe. The show describes itself as “where movement becomes music, turning anything and everything into musical instruments”. I have caught up with them to find out more.
What’s your show called for Edinburgh Fringe 2025?
Our show is called “You’re an Instrument!”
How long have you been doing the Edinburgh Fringe?
This is our very first time at Edinburgh Fringe! We’re incredibly excited to be coming over from Australia with House of Oz, and everyone has said we’re in for a really relaxing time in a low-stress and zero-chaos environment, that’s right isn’t it?
How do you cope with the overwhelming chaos that the Fringe brings?
We embrace it! You’re An Instrument is a show that thrives on chaos – our show is literally a rogue experiment with audience surprises and unexpected sounds. The Fringe feels like home turf in that way, and it’s always nice to remind ourselves that the best bits of the show and the Fringe often come from the unexpected.
What sort of shows will you see if you have time?
We love our Melbourne mates The Listies and will definitely be checking out their show “The Listies Make Some Noise” who are also touring as part of House of Oz.
Have you performed at any other Fringe’s? If so, which has been your favourite so far?
Our team has performed in Fringes across the world – but it feels like we’re about to tick the big one off the list now!
Any advice to newbies about flyering?
Time = tickets!
What are your plans for the show after the Edinburgh Fringe?
This is just the beginning! After Edinburgh, we’re planning more regional tours around Australia, and are dreaming big about international schools and festivals. We’re also hoping to expand our free app that lets kids keep composing long after the show has ended.
