Matthew Gent-Edinburgh Fringe 2025-Part of July Challenge.

Matthew Gent has been performing for “17 years” and I have caught up with him before he embarks on his debut Edinburgh Fringe performance in the immersive show clubnvrlnd.

What’s your show called for Edinburgh Fringe 2025?

I’m appearing in Club NVRLND at Assembly Checkpoint.

How long have you been doing the Edinburgh Fringe?

Despite having been working for 17 years this is my first show at the Edinburgh Fringe!

How do you cope with the overwhelming chaos that the Fringe brings?

I guess we’ll find out! I don’t believe in chaos- I’m a professional 😉 But I will be taking plenty of time for myself during my daytimes.

What sort of shows will you see if you have time?

I’d be interested to see other new Musical Theatre writing. That and queer writing- my people have a voice and wanna use it!

Have you performed at any other Fringes? If so, which has been your favourite so far?

I’ve performed in several London Fringe shows but not festivals. I’m always amazed at what can be created in a small space – we ask the audience to use their imagination harder. It’s a nice break from bigger shows when everything is spoon fed.

Any advice to newbies about flyering?

Having never flyered I can’t say… but my guess would be not to take it personally…

What are your plans for the show after the Edinburgh Fringe?

I guess it depends on how we’re received! It’s a really fun, high-energy show that can be enjoyed by a lot of people. A nice little residency at a cool London venue would be welcome.
