I have caught up with Cornelius loy to find out more about the show Loy is taking to the Edinburgh Fringe this August.
What’s your show called at Edinburgh Fringe 2025 and what is it about?
Our show is called Falling in Love with Mr. Dellamort and it’s about unrequited love.
What is the history of your show? Has it been performed anywhere else in the world before bringing it to Edinburgh?
Yes, the show originated in New York City and has been developed into a new adaption designed exclusively for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
What are your plans for the show after the Edinburgh Fringe?
After the Fringe is finished i’m playing Theremin at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn for a seance and at a wedding for the newly wed couple’s first dance.
Is it your first time at the Edinburgh Fringe?
Yes its my first time at Edinburgh Fringe.
There are over 3,500 shows performing – how do you think you will cope with the overwhelming chaos that the Fringe brings?
I’m from New York City and i’ve played in punk rock bands that didn’t like me – i am used to extreme tension and screams of endearment.
What sort of other shows will see if you have time? Has anything caught your eye from the programme?
Yes! I am really looking forward to seeing the drag queen tribute to Kath & Kim called
Fountain Lakes in Lockdown: A Drag Parody Play (July 30 – Aug 24, Gilded Balloon at Appleton Tower (Orchard) at 14.35).
Any advice about flyering?
Showcasing what is unique about your show is the best way to fall in love with the spirit of the production.
Do you have any “good luck” rituals you undertake before performing?
Besides the usual unicorn sacrifices – I usually just put on a ton of makeup and run around in circles.
How have you found booking accommodation?
Mr. Dellamort and I had our tarot cards read by a travel advisor.
What three pieces of advice would you give to first-timers going to the Fringe?
Make sure you tune your Theremin before going, research all the different shows and most of all embrace the beautiful chaos that art evokes.
Have you performed at any other Fringes? If so which has been your favourite so far?
This is my first fringe festival and already my favourite.
………………….
The Theremin: A century-old marvel of electronic music, the Theremin sings without touch – its voice conjured by hands that dance through invisible waves of sound. Think of the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” or the sci-fi classic movie The Day the Earth Stood Still. Its otherworldly tones weave through the air, echoing the desires, doubts, and dreams of the characters, its haunting melodies stitching an unseen thread of emotion through every moment. It does not speak, but it feels – and in feeling, it moves us.
