Lily Blumkin-Edinburgh Fringe 2025-Part of July Challenge.

First-timer Lily Blumkin takes some time out to chat with me about her forthcoming performance at the Edinburgh Fringe 2025.

Is this your first time at Edinburgh Fringe?

Yes! First time participating and coming to the festival. I couldn’t be more excited.

How long have you been preparing your show for Edinburgh?

I started writing “Nice Try” at the end of 2023, and at that point, Edinburgh Fringe was a pipe dream for me. I wanted to attend for years (and ideally perform there on my own), but work and finances kept me from being able to make the trip. As I workshopped my show throughout 2024, I felt like I finally had the material for an Edinburgh Fringe run. So in 2025, I decided to fully commit to the festival, and I’ve been performing the show in New York City since January, rehearsing for a full Fringe run. That’s a long way of saying I’ve been preparing for this moment for many years, but with this show specifically, about a year and a half!

What is your motivation to perform there?

Edinburgh Fringe is the best place in the world for artists to grow as writers and performers. That’s my biggest goal in coming to the festival: to push myself creatively and become the best artist I can be. I also can’t wait to see hundreds of other shows and be inspired by all kinds of performances. Plus, I’m excited to meet fellow artists and see what kinds of collaborations come out of the festival!

What have you done to prepare for the Edinburgh Fringe, emotionally and physically?

Physically: Taken a lot of long walks to prepare my feet

Emotionally: Gone back to weekly therapy

Have you had any advice from others who have performed at the Fringe?

Buy orthotic shoes and DRINK WATER.

Have you visited Scotland or Edinburgh before?

Never! What’s the consensus on haggis?

How have you found booking  accommodation?

Competitive and PRICEY! Here I was thinking my rent in New York was expensive…

What plans do you have for your show after the Edinburgh Fringe is over?

I have plans to run “Nice Try” again in New York and a few other cities in the US after the festival. Otherwise, I’m excited to see where Edinburgh Fringe takes my show!
