Karl Magnus Moshuus-Edinburgh Fringe 2025-Part of July Challenge.

Upon reading up on MaestroClass by Karl Magnus Moshuus I was intrigued to find out more about the show and the man behind it. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary this could quite possibly be the show for you.

What’s your show called for Edinburgh Fringe 2025?

My show is called ‘MaestroClass’ and is playing at The Counting House from 1st-24th of august at 1AM (late night!!) No performances 15th-17th.

How long have you been doing the Edinburgh Fringe?

This is my first year! I went last year as well, only to watch. I was just there for 3 days, but still got to see a lot! It’s been my dream to do the Edinburgh Fringe for 3 years now.

How do you cope with the overwhelming chaos that the Fringe brings?

I took some advice from a good friend and clown colleague of mine who said I should set some goals for my run. I’m not usually a person who sets myself goals – I think mostly I’m scared about being disappointed if I don’t reach my goal. Especially if the goal is external, like getting a review vs an internal one like having fun for my whole run! But it’s a good point in general to have them written down, so that you can return them in a dire moment. I’m also going to try to give myself some space; that even though Fringe feels very important when it’s happening, a lot of the work is actually done before and after. So don’t worry so much about it and go out and have fun!

What sort of shows will see if you have time?

Clown! Lots of clown. And I’ll take more chances. I didn’t do that as much last year as I only had 3 days. But definitely now. If I get the time. I also really want to see “A young man dressed as a gorilla dressed as an old man sits rocking in a rocking chair for fifty-six minutes and then leaves.”. If I get the time.

Have you performed at any other Fringe’s? If so which has been your favourite so far?

I was at Brighton Fringe in May, which was great. I think it was a bit reduced this year since SpiegelTent wasn’t there – but I still had great fun. It was my first Fringe, first time flyering and first time performing outside of Norway. Brighton is such a great city, I love the young and artsy vibe of it. A proud moment for me was when I did a bit at Spotlight Bandstand in Spiegel Gardens, I did a bit from Maestro where I work on the crowd. Afterwards, one of the workers said I’d done a good job of capturing the crowd as usually they just ignore what’s going on at the stage. A proud busking moment for this clown! I also made friends with the security guards working there – great people!

Any advice to newbies about flyering?

Oh, it’s a hard one. You’re basically fighting against your whole social conditioning aren’t you? Not to stand out, not to bother people (especially ingrained in Norwegians). But I think that mostly lives within ourselves, it’s not a real thing out in the world. What’s the worst thing that can happen? You could die. Jokes aside – worst that can happen is people just ignore you. It’s not that bad. Be yourself, listen and be interested – not interesting. You can flyer in character, but always listen to who you are delivering to. Do they like you in character? Keep going. Do they just want to know about your show in a nice and quiet way? Do that. I’ll also leave some advice from my friend Gary; “When it stops being fun, go for a coffee.”

What are your plans for the show after the Edinburgh Fringe?

I want to do more shows in Norway, actually. I’m also doing a nordic pitch thing at the Norwegian Consulate in Edinburgh – so something might come from that. It would be cool to tour internationally as well. I’d love to go to Australia and New Zealand for example. I might be looking to do more corporate gigs and stuff with Maestro, like office parties and stuff. I think Maestro can work in many settings – I did a gender reveal with him recently. My friend was meant to hold a speech at his office summer party, and wanted to combine it with him announcing he was going to be a dad. I was supposed to pop a balloon which contained confetti indicating the gender (a girl, in this case) – but I would do it with my voice. It was fun, but no one understood that it was a gender reveal!
