Loser Lion Party Bus rolls into the Edinburgh Fringe this year. Caught up with Kym Preiss ahead if the Fringe chaos.
When were last performing at the Edinburgh Fringe?
Last year – my 1st year
What was the name of your previous show?
Same as last year ! Loser Lion Party Bus – but last year I split a slot with a buddy and did the last week only , in addition to spots on other shows. I only did the first thirty minutes then; it has since developed into the full one-hour show which adds a transformation into Loser Lion’s inflatable lover, Dolly, a virtual cameo by The Grinch, and existential relationship developments.
How long has your current show been running for?
I have been touring with this very current one-hour version since May 2025.
Do you have any “good luck” rituals you undertake before performing?
Well, I always carry my magic crystals with me – usually pyrite, rhyolite and adventurine.
To me, it’s more about preparation, and the attitude of just hopping on the ride.
So in that case, I try to be as hydrated as possible, drink some Throat Coat, stretch, maybe meditate a little, eat 2hrs in advance, do my makeup one hour before, and then crack a beer when the show starts because after all…it IS a party bus.
How have you found booking accommodation this year?
HA! Well, unless you’re independently wealthy and/or have some other sort of financial backing, the best way to go is the university accommodation. I hit up some private homes but they were all ridiculously expensive, hard to know if the homeowner was trustworthy. There’s some glamping way out of town which is very cheap but ‘camping’ with expensive gear and probable rain doesn’t really work. I’m sure there’s some underground amazing deals though! It’s all who you know, isn’t it?
What three pieces of advice would you give to first-timers going to the Fringe?
- Get slots on comp shows 2. If you’re on a budget for food, Tesco is your friend. 3. Get a UK SIM card
What are you plans after the Edinburgh Fringe is over?
Go back to LA, take a break for a wee bit on THIS show and return to my music project, STUNTDRIVER. I am planning a single/video release and show. Plus I need to finish a new record.
