Gerry Carroll-Edinburgh Fringe 2025-Part of July Challenge.

Veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe Gerry Carroll brings his latest show A Gerry Merry Christmas to this year’s Fringe. It’s never too early for a bit of festive cheer.

What’s your show called for Edinburgh Fringe 2025?

A Gerry Christmas Carroll. My name is Gerry Carroll, and the show is a telling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This is the original, that other artists and performers have imitated since 1843. What makes it so special? Come and see the original, and find out! Let’s unScrooge ourselves.

How long have you been doing the Edinburgh Fringe?

I first came to Fringe in 2014, and I’ve done solo shows since 2017.

How do you cope with the overwhelming chaos that the Fringe brings?

This year, my show offers a peaceful hour without loud music or shouting, a welcome break for me and my audience from the madness of Fringe. An hour of story, to take us to Victorian London for a little break!

I have a few people that I see daily who keep me grounded and help me on the bad days, and I do the same for them. And- just go with the flow. But I don’t drink or stay out late.

What sort of shows will see if you have time?

I’d love to see other shows with a literary connection. And Improv. There’s lots of improv at Fringe, and I hope to see some. One Eyed Scouts at Brewdog Lothian Road looks great and my friends are in it. Also my friend Michelle Burke is doing a show with songs called Mind How You Go at Zoo Playground at 12.45 that looks very good.

Have you performed at any other Fringe’s? If so which has been your favourite so far?

I’ve done Brighton Fringe and it’s very good, but a lot less intense than Edinburgh. Edinburgh Fringe is a beast but it’s my favourite.

Any advice to newbies about flyering?

Speak to people, don’t hand out flyers without engaging. Have a few short, friendly things to say about your show. Invite them as if they were your friends.

What are your plans for the show after the Edinburgh Fringe?

I hope to take it to venues around England, especially in the run-up to Christmas.

Please feel free to add anything you would like to as well. You know your show better than anyone.

It’s a gentle oasis amid all the frantic activity of the Fringe. Enjoy being told an old familiar story, and find something new in it.
