Chris Sainton-Clark has worked in pubs, bars, and cafes all over the world during his travels. However, he holds much affection for his village country pub in Norfolk. When he has a bad shift or someone has annoyed him, he goes home to vent his anger by passive aggressively writing a song about it.
The range of characters he has met over the years are funny (without trying to be) and entertaining in their own, these stories have been handed to him in a “glass” while he has been pulling their pints and are now immortalised in his catalogue of songs.
We hear about Barry, the man with 3 teeth and 5 hairs who believes he is a lothario with the women and it doesn’t give up no matter how many times he is knocked back or told to “p**s off”. To the heartbroken customers who use his unskilled talents as a therapist to divulge their secrets and unload their conscience onto him, whether he wants to hear it or not.
There’s a big scandalous event that takes place when a drag queen is hired to perform for an evening. The locals are furious and claim they will boycott it. However, this isn’t the case, and once they warm up to the idea an enjoyable night was eventually had by all without any blood shed.
When or if you have worked in a public house, you will be able to relate to some of these characters, and, at some point, you are bound to have met at least one of them. These are the characters that make a country pub what it is, and without them, these places wouldn’t exist.
Sainton-Clark brings his charm and humour to these songs. With plenty of attention to detail and capturing the “unique charms” of some of these public house customers.
