Reviewing at Fringe’s can be challenging at times. Yet every now and again you find a hidden gem. This Can’t Be It was it on this occasion. I have no idea what I was watching but I loved every minute of it and laughed throughout.

Comedy can become formulaic and to find someone who breaks barriers and tries something new is a breath of fresh air. For anyone old enough to remember watching the Saturday Night Live shows from America will have seen the likes of Jim Carey and Robin Williams trying new materials and being outrageous at times. Loz Dodd has that same magic and stage presence.

Dodd is unpredictable, funny, and charismatic. Throughout the entire performance, the audience was in the palm of his hand. You felt safe with him and instinctively knew he wasn’t going to do anything to make you feel uncomfortable or vulnerable. He simply wants you to be entertained and enjoy his journey of random madness.

Due to the level of audience participation throughout the performance, every show will be slightly different and every audience member will take away their own experience of him and the show.

Billed as a work in progress I saw it as more of a showcase of his many talents. Dodd can sing, dance, improvise and engage effortlessly with everyone in his audience, oh and he can make you laugh at the most random things. A rare natural talent that has endless opportunities ahead of him.

Although Saturday 24th May was his last Brighton Fringe performance this isn’t going to be the last time he performs. Dodd is a natural performer and deserves a bigger audience.
