The Comedy About Spies is the new comedy-filled gem presented by Mischief Worldwide Ltd. Henry Lewis takes on the role of Douglas Woodbead, the would-be actor who is desperately trying to find out where the auditions are being held while guarding his prize possession of an “Oscar.” His co-writer Henry Shields plays the love-struck agent by default, Bernard Wright.

Agents Y, C. U. and others are called in for a meeting to discuss their latest mission. There’s much confusion about which agent is being referred to, and “Y” the mission is important.

Double agents, triple agents and quadruple agents bluff each other throughout the play as the Russian Spies and American Spies raise the theatre auditorium roof in the games they play in the secret world of espionage. Watch closely, though, to make sure you keep up with all the action.

One of the highlights of the play for me, is when one of the Spies is pulled frantically through every hotel room window on the stage and pops up cheerfully and unscathed to continue his mission.

Movement director Shelley Maxwell has brought together a close-knit comedy gold cast. Each of them never puts a foot or weapon wrong. It’s action-packed from start to finish, the movement direction was a mammoth task, which works perfectly.

David Farley, set designer, brings to life various parts of the hotel where the majority of the play is set. From trap doors in bedroom floors, decadent Art deco hotel foyer to the caretaker’s neatly stacked cupboard. Each staged room and area has been created with a keen eye for detail.
