Meow Meow:It’s Come to This offers an engaging and entertaining cabaret performance. Complete with “big hair”, divine red glittery lipstick which catches the lights throughout the performance, and heels many women could only dream of being able to walk in, let alone perform in them.
Accompanied on the stage by the talented and patient piano player Ben Dawson, weĺl after she had organised the stage to her liking, that is. The performance is split by her engaging “clowning” around, an incredible singing voice, where her chosen numbers were either sung in German or English and moments of thought-provoking philosophy to bring a sense of melancholy into the show.
There’s audience participation throughout the performance, and nowhere in the auditorium is a “safe seat” as Meow Meow will seek you out to either join her on stage or to “borrow” something from you that takes her fancy. Meow Meow is not phased by being handled at her request by the audience who are on stage with her.
Although it wasn’t my first visit to SOHO Theatre, this was my first cabaret experience watching Meow Meow. And it will not be my last. Her stage presence is beguiling and I wasn’t sure what to expect from the show. However, from mutterings around me, it was clear she has a fan base who are familiar with her work and two were thrilled when she asked them to join her on stage.
If Cabaret is your taste in entertainment or you’re looking to see one for the first time, then Meow Meow is one I would recommend catching. The show is now on until May 24th 2025, in SOHO Theatre.
