GENERATE:Student Art Exhibition 2025.

Greenham Common back in the 1980s was made famous by the thousands of women who arrived at the then USA Airbase to protest against the cruise missiles being stored there and to promote peace not war. A link to the History of the RAF and USA airbase is attached at the end of this article.

The Base is a “purpose-built arts and craft building, The Base’s £1.7M venue was designed by Sutton Griffin Architects of Newbury. The space comprises an 110sqm gallery, artists’ studios, and a workshop for participatory classes. There is also a café facility managed by Honesty Café Group” which offers the perfect showcase space for GENERATE:Student Art Exhibition 2025.

The evening before officially opening the doors to the general public The Base was buzzing with students eagerly showing their parents and friends their work displayed in the exhibition. Along with teachers and tutors admiring their student’s work and dedication on display. From paintings, clothes designs, sculptures and a table the range of skills and talents surround you as you walk around the gallery.

Beautiful collective piece of a tree with individually made glass leaves.

I was particularly impressed with several pictures of “faces” The attention to detail in the face’s eyes was superb. From the piercing green ones to the two girls featured in a larger painting in the centre of the exhibition. They appeared to be looking straight through you and observing the visitors.

Some of my particular favourite pieces are featured in this article. Photographs never do art justice so if you live locally or are planning a visit to the area call in and see the abundance of artwork for yourself.

While you are visiting The Base it is worth checking out the eight Artists in Residence studios located upstairs. At a time when all we hear about are cuts to funding in the arts and theatre world, it is a pleasure to visit and see what is being created.
