Rocky Horror Show by Richard O’Brien.

Legendary RocknRoll Musical Rocky Horror Show written by Richard O’Brien is currently on tour and running into 2025. As a first-timer watching the show, I wasn’t sure what to expect and the only song I was familiar with was the Time Warp.

The show is encouraged to be interactive. With the audience tonight it was clear from the beginning that some knew the production word for word. Which didn’t appear to put the cast off their lines and sometimes some of the cast changed the final word of a sentence to something else after the original had been shouted out.

Frank N Furter (Stephen Webb) donned suspenders and fishnets ready to “help” the stranded couple Brad (Connor Carson) and Janet (Lauren Chia). The newly engaged couple arrive at the castle innocent and naive looking for a phone. However, they become trapped in a bizarre world that changes their lives.

The Narrator Nathan Caton stood his ground throughout the evening as members of the audience who were huge fans of the show heckled at any opportunity they could. However, as a stand-up comedian, Caton wasn’t phased by any of the comments regardless of how crude or risqué some of the heckles became. I dare say he has batted back worse over the years when he has been on tour.

Job Greuter in the role of Riff Raff plays an outstanding role and fast became my favourite character. The way he could bend his legs to appear to have a walking impediment gave his character the quirky demeanour that set him apart onstage.

Costume Designer Sue Blane brings the iconic musical to life. Full of gothic-style outfits, plenty of basques, stockings and suspenders. Not forgetting the fabulous feather boas. Although the space suits towards the end of the show add a striking sci-fi touch.

No production of the Rocky Horror Show would be complete without excellent choreography, which Nathan M. Wright achieves in this staged version alongside director Christopher Luscombe. The entire cast and production team have created a memorable Rocky Horror Show for the stage.

The show offers a great night out at the Theatre although it was slightly off-putting at times when certain audience members took the interaction too far and just a bit of respect towards the cast wouldn’t go a miss. However, that is no reflection on the cast who dealt with the situations brilliantly.
