I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical stars Luke Harley, Sev Keoshgerian, Jessi O’Donnell and Julie Yammanee who take to the stage in multiple roles to bring to life the entire world of musical theatre. They start with the glitzy opening number followed by the nerve-wracking audition day where egos battle for the role and through all the aspects that create the musical illusion.

Nobody involved in the Theatre industry is left out of the musical storyline. From the West End Star of the show aka The Diva, the understudy who is desperate for their big break to the esteemed Theatre Critic who is a secret musical fan.

Packed with dance routines that don’t go to plan due to some of the theatres cramped stages, singing off-key and not quite hitting the required notes due to the piano accompanying the singer to the heated off-stage dramas which threatened to derail the whole musical and the run cancelled.

Alexander S Bermange accompanies the cast throughout playing the piano for each musical number and at times correcting the cast on occasions too as (part of the storyline) of course as the cast are fabulous.

Directed and choreographed by Matthew Parker whose extensive career on and off the stage captures the heart and soul of what makes the Theatre a magical experience for audiences  To the array of hard knocks for the actors who know that “the show must go on” and wave those jazz hands as they put their best foot forward.

You don’t necessarily have to be a musical fan to enjoy I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical as it talks about the people who dislike them too and the reasons why they do. Offering a balanced and entertaining look at the world of musical theatre. Understanding that they aren’t for everyone although the work that goes into them deserves to be respected.
