Paul Wady has produced an incredibly well-researched and engaging show celebrating the world of  “Essentrics” called Essentrics Assemble packed full of information and facts about the famous people featured within the show. Celebrating its tenth anniversary at the Edinburgh Fringe this year and until this year it has never been reviewed.

In the role of the raconteur and author (among other roles), Quentin Crisp (Paul Wady) takes the audience on a journey through the history of historically famous Eccentric people who spent most of their lives on the edge of society and were very often cruelly shunned. He also introduces the audience to Quentin’s novel The Naked Civil Servant which a couple of audience members took the details of to purchase a copy.

The range of characters included in the show are Screaming Lord Sutch whose policies in his political manifesto don’t quite seem so Essentric now, Spike Milligan a famous member of the radio comedy show The Goons Show, and Patricia Highsmith the author of many books including The Talented Mr Ripley.

Wady has designed an essential eccentrics test that the audience can play along with during the show.  The questions have four answer boxes and you tick off the one that suits your personality to measure your level in the “Guerilla Autistic” test. It makes you think about your personality. I am not divulging my results.

It is one of the most engaging and entertaining shows I’ve seen this Fringe. There was audience interaction and inclusion throughout the show and a relaxed atmosphere. It is described by Wady as “Fun, interactive, and neurodiverse” and I agree with him.
