SPIKED by Saraya Haddad is a One-Woman play that combines an evening when she was about to go on stage to perform Atiel in The Tempest by William Shakespeare after being spiked in the University campus bar.

All of her memories of the evening are blanked out. It’s the barrage of unclear text messages from her friends who were there that are informing her of how she had been behaving during the performance.

The audience watches as Haddad scrabbles together her recollections from the night by piecing together the 13 hours she simply cannot remember in any detail. The fear and unsettling admission that she simply has no idea what happened feels her with

There were parts of the play that I wanted to shout at the friends for not taking her to a hospital to be checked out. If you’re with a friend who begins to act completely out of character while you are in a pub, club or any venue similar please take them to seek help it could easily be a matter of life and death if they were to react.

This is an important story that can happen to anyone at any time and awareness of the effects and danger need to be talked about more. Victims can be friends, family or strangers. Everyone needs to be aware of the signs and get the person who has been spiked medical help as soon as possible before the effects of the drugs leave their system.

SPIKED is a play that acts as a public service information performance and it would be an ideal play to be shown in Colleges and Universities. If anyone has any links or contacts please contact me and I will pass the details on.
