Show How It’s Thespian were a third-week arrival at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. It is one of the hidden gems that appear from nowhere, you take a chance and come away really pleased that you didn’t miss it.

Based on their experiences of teachers they have known or have been taught by during their acting training. The story takes two Drama Teachers wearing  “Hole” badges running what they deem to be a prestigious Drama College called A.R.S.E.

The abhorrent way in which they speak to their two students is shocking for example stapling their feet to the stage. There’s a complete lack of respect towards their “Tech” actor, not actual tech. Who then gets fed up and answers back explaining that there isn’t a show without him.

Many of the characters and humour is based on inside knowledge or events from real drama colleges which on one level can be slightly lost on audience members that have never been. However, the delivery is written and performed so well that you completely understand what is taking place.

The play is full of acronyms to describe the fictional Theatre companies battling in this play, just use the title of this show to find one. One guy at the end asked where he could sign up for F.U.C.K which showed the strong level of audience engagement.

It’s a clever idea and brilliantly performed. The energy and passion from this newly formed Theatre Company is a breath of fresh air at the Edinburgh Fringe. Definitely, a company who have captured the essence of well-timed and laugh-out-loud comedy, which isn’t easy, which any good comedian will tell you.
