A quick Google search and Conspiracy Theories are in abundance. From Paul McCartney, the moon landing and the Titanic. Liverpool-based comedian Andy Roach brought his show Laughing at Conspiracy Theories to Just the Tonic at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Every performance will be slightly different as the show relies heavily on audience participation and new Conspiracy Theories are added into the mix. It’s a subject many people seem to like and there was no shortage of people wanting to join in and debate the theories they strongly believe in. It could have easily become quite volatile at times but Roach knew exactly when to bring things back together.
It isn’t clear what Roach’s opinion on conspiracy theories was and what he believes in. It is a brilliant idea for an Edinburgh Fringe show and it was sold out with some audience members turned away the night I saw it. My advice is to book up in advance if he returns with this show next year.
I don’t know whether to believe in them or not. However, it’s fascinating listening to the evidence provided by those who strongly do and there’s part of me that thinks they do have a good point with some and are completely “bonkers” with others. All I suggest is that you come with an open mind and enjoy a good laugh.
