A heartwarming verbatim performance written and performed by Rachel Pollock in Journey to Long Nose. A heartfelt look into her journey of discovery. She defies anyone in Edinburgh to have a longer nose than hers and is happy to be proved wrong.
Pollock questions where are we really from? Who were our ancestors? Where did our physical attributes originate from? All families have their history and selection of “tall stories” and ideas of where they came from and who they are. Everyone has a sense of self-identity, belonging and a heritage that they can refer back to.
Pollock’s family said for years that they had a Cherokee heritage. However, ancestry.com had other news about that legacy and the results threw up more unanswered questions. Some of which will possibly never be answered.
The performance offers humour and satire as she takes a look at who she is. The Nose became a book and is now a play, without the nose who knows what topic of show Pollock couldhave created instead. The performance left me questioning my own and thinking about having a DNA test done.
Journey to Long Nose is exactly the type of performance that fits into the “Fringe” as there’s no other being performed about this topic.
Four Stars.
