A completely different one-hander production at the Edinburgh Fringe 2024, written by A G Anderson Edwards Talk-Whats Driving You. With millions of cars on the road and the large numbers of “accidents” that take place every day there is a place for an educational show among the choices available across the Fringe.
Edward, ‘never Ted’ played by Andrew Bruce-Lockhart is likeable and has an in-depth knowledge of how everyone should drive. He aims to make every driver safer and to “drive like it matters” which translates to fully concentrating every time you get behind the wheel.
Throughout the show, he forgets what he was meant to say or do next and at times cannot find the next prop that he needs. These are all deliberate displays of how easily you can lose concentration and can get sidetracked. Each time he does that he reminds the audience to “Drive like it matters” and stay focused.
A new, devised interactive drama about the impact on yourself and other drivers on the road if you don’t concentrate on the speed of your driving. One moment of slipped concentration and many people’s lives can be devastated forever.
Inspired by real speed awareness courses, the piece uses the statistics of road accidents to talk about the effects of speeding on our lives. Featuring some audience participation and involvement in observation tasks and speeding facts and figures, the talk may encourage you to, as Edward says, “drive like it matters” and become a safer driver.
