The Parky Players have returned to the Edinburgh Fringe this year with their new parody sketch comedy show Shaken Not Stirred where James Bond has let himself go a bit and needs to get back in shape for a new mission, researching new treatment for Parkinsons. Is he up to the job? There’s only one way to find out.

The monosyllabic Dr No might be the man to ask after all he is a Dr, they just need to persuade him to learn how to say yes and talk him around and convince him to change his ways and put his energy and intelligence for the power of good. Perhaps for once he could save the day!

Throughout the performance, there are references to many of the Bond films, characters, and events featured in these films. You don’t need to be a fan to enjoy Shaken Not Stirred as I’ve never watched any of the films and I enjoyed the show.

The Parky Players use the script lines quite loosely from the films and have adapted the narrative to produce a fast-paced sketch show detailing how the condition affects their everyday lives from shaking, constipation, and involuntary dribbling.

The Parkinson’s-led theatre company is raising awareness of the lack of information available about the condition this ranges from medical professionals to the general public. There’s very little new research taking place about the condition and medication is limited.

At the end of the show, there’s a very moving song written especially for the play. Which the audience is given song sheets and encouraged to join in. After all every Bond film has its unique theme song.

Performances like these are exactly what the Edinburgh Fringe platform should be used for and let people have fun and raise awareness at the same time.
