We all have Loft Luggage and as you get older that increases dramatically. Things you gather over time, inherited from dead relatives, and the “that might come in handy” stuff! It all mounts up unnoticed until the day you need to tackle it head on and decide the fate of all the Loft Luggage.
As we travel through our lives there comes a point where you need to decide what to do with it all next. Eileen Mahony, retired teacher has packed her six boxes up with one item from her past to continue with her into her future of downsized “stuff” retirement.
Set in the waiting room of a train station Mahony explains the excitement and expectations that she feels every time she sits waiting for a train. Where is it going? What will I discover when I arrive? How will I feel when I get there? The journey is all part of the adventure.
The show is more than just six boxes. It’s about how different people have experienced retirement their outlook for the years left ahead of them and what path their journey now takes. The play is a methodical slower-paced Fringe show and the style of presentation puts Mahony’s teaching skills to good use.
Being retired doesn’t mean your life and usefulness are finished in the world it’s a time to embrace the new and start a new phase of your choosing.
