After watching and reviewing Callum Patrick Hughes in Thirst at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe, I was intrigued and keen to see his new show How Can I Help You? It’s always an honour to follow artists and watch their development and growth in their careers and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest.
Callum has grown in confidence over the past year and has a stronger stage presence, he looks comfortable and naturally belongs in front of an audience. He is an excellent engaging storyteller, guitarist and singer. The show is based on part therapy and part self-realisation and a huge dose of honesty about his life and his recent ADHD diagnosis.
The charm of his production and performance is the lack of “woe is me” that could easily become the narrative. Instead, he embraces the knowledge and understanding he is discovering and channelling it into positivity. Retelling the stories of his younger self and how his journey has taken him on some incredible experiences. I have no doubt will continue to do so.
I think as Callum’s productions and career develop further there’s a gap in the market for an ambassador to speak out about the effects ADHD can have on your development and life choices. Why do they do things a certain way, letting society into their minds and have a greater understanding of what it’s like to try and function in a world where the expectations are to be “normal” whatever that is?

Five Stars.
