Comedian Louise Atkinson certainly has more than her “look” in the powerful one-woman stand-up comedy performance She’s Got The Look. She has talent, charisma and a fantastic delivery throughout the performance which puts the audience at ease straight away.
After performing in a well-known and never-identified comedy showcase the company contacted Atkinson after the show with feedback about her performance and point blank told her that she “Sounds good, looks like a mess’, whoever they were they got it seriously wrong in my opinion as she definitely sounds good and looks good too.
Atkinson offers an insight into what it is like to suffer from an eating disorder and how she attempts to control it, well more that she accepts that she has it and will binge eat at times when her mental health is low. Honestly, body image positivity shouldn’t be judged solely on being thin or wearing certain brands. It should be confidence and celebrating who you are with pride. Which is exactly the “good” positive message behind Atkinson’s comedy.
The hour-long show is funny, raw, and honest. She never falters or loses her thread. Engaging with the audience positively throughout pointing out the funny idiosyncrasies around men’s underwear, intrigued, then go and see the show to find out more.
Atkinson is one to watch and has the likeable, personable approach to comedy, I was left wanting to hear more as I am sure there’s an abundance of material stored away for future shows.
This is one of my recommended comedy performances so far at the Edinburgh Fringe and deserves to do well.
Five Stars.
