Jon and Ollie Mime Club isn’t strictly a mime show it has elements and scenes of miming throughout and opens the performance with the double act attempting to brush their teeth as they wake up ready to start the show. I never knew you could have so much entertainment value from a toothbrush.
The chaos and energy become infectious and there’s plenty of audience participation from an audience member standing up to become a human Allan key to the single rose-giving section. It is full on from start to finish and I certainly came away wondering what on earth must go inside their heads at times.
The only slight spoiler I will mention is to brace yourself for the dog scene. It’s incredibly energetic and left me feeling exhausted just watching and you never quite know where the dog will go next. Definitely one of the highlights of the show.
However, some scenes can repeat themselves too many times which sadly loses the impact of the humour. The audience became slightly less engaged at those points. This would easily be rectified by tightening up those scenes and creating a slicker transition between the scene changes.
Ollie and Jon have a fantastic onstage rapport and work closely together throughout the show. There are a few mishaps which occur but considering the style of the show these could easily have been a part of the act. Overly it is an entertaining way to spend an hour at the Fringe.
