Each year for the past five years Travis has attended a spectacular barbecue hosted by his friend James. Although he will only stay for about an hour due to his crippling social anxiety which prevents him from staying any longer. In My Friend Travis by Sam Winner, the audience is introduced to the man who should be appearing at any point.

However, this year he fails to appear and his friend James appears to be puzzled and concerned as to where Travis might be or what has prevented him from attending. Although everything is not as it appears to be.

James offers an insight into his real personality and the Beast that lives inside. However, the storyline fails to fully develop and you are left slightly unsure of the truth behind his story. Although at times that is the beauty of Fringe Theatre, you are left to fill in the blanks.

A lack of clarity combined with a rushed performance at times doesn’t always make the storyline easy to follow and it can lose the intensity and depth that the storyline potentially begins to build up. There is much potential in the sinister storyline and it needs to be edited to develop fully.

Every year for the past five years, James has hosted a spectacular summer barbecue for his friends and family. And every year, his best friend Travis attends one hour prior due to his social anxiety and fear of meeting new people. However, for the first time, Travis hasn’t shown up.

As time runs out, and the barbecue draws closer, James imagines what could be, and what is about to be. Which is when things get very weird. And what seems normal at first becomes profoundly odd.
