Nine dancers ranging in age bring together the generations to dance, explain and highlight the effects Hip Hop dancing can have to your body in the UK Premiere dance production Crazy Smooth: In My Body. Interviews from the oldest dance group member DK Freeze (born 1965) and dancer Tash (born1971).
Writer Alejandro Rodriguez uses the dance group to explore the effects that years of dancing can have on your body. One false move can leave a dancer in a position of never being able to perform/dance again. Understanding how their joints and hearts move and work with each step allowing them to carry on dancing.
DK Freeze gave an impressive solo performance. I dare say a lot of Fifty-Nine year olds would “kill” to have that range of movement and dance skills that Freeze can perform and entertain audiences with.
Chantal Labonté’s lighting together with the multimedia designs of Thomas Payette brings the dancers to life every “move” and rhythm of the way throughout the performance. The fascinating opening solo sets the audience as Crazy Smooth has red lights appear on his body depicting the dancer coming to life from the inside to the outside of his body.
Canadian-born dancer, Crazy Smooth started dancing in 1997 and is now the top street dancer, choreographer, judge, instructor and community leader. Helping others to fulfil their potential in the world of Hip Hop.
The international creative team for CrazySmooth:In MyBody, included original music by DJ Shash’U, Crazy Smooth: In My Body. The team have created a performance which looks into the culture of hip-hop through the eyes, minds and bodies of the dancers. Offering the outside world who like myself know very little about Hip Hop a greater understanding from those in the heart of the scene.
