Strange Orbits may not be too far away from the future. Although the cost of resettlement on Mars would only be available initially to scientists and billionaires. As the water levels rise and fires burn in Strange Orbits those who could afford to flee. Earth as we know is wrecked by global warming changes and supposedly (in the play) unreversible damage caused by mankind meant that Earth is now uninhabitable.

Lily and Jasper have just arrived home a little worse for wear from a successful celebration party for their tenth wedding anniversary. Lily is a first-class scientist whom billionaire Jasper hired to work for him before they departed Earth. Although as we discover he had ulterior motives from the start.

Their relationship turns out to be unbalanced and the divide between them widens as the storyline unfolds. An unread/unwatched message from Lily” ‘s sister enrages Lily and the truth is uncovered about why Earth was abandoned by those who could afford to. Lily is left questioning their relationship.

At one point in the set the couple dance using gloves that light up at the fingertips. Although the dance is entertaining it didn’t fit in with the storyline and left me questioning why it was added in. The strength of the storyline doesn’t require it to be there and is a distraction from following the conversation of the couple.

It is a play that offers a warning about how the future could potentially look. Making life on another planet a viable option. It had echoes of the scientific blockbuster film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone Total Recall which arrived in the cinema in 1990.
