After her Dad suffers from a life-changing brain injury after he was caught and hit by a van’s wing mirror. AJ’s life changes in an instant the once outgoing young lady becomes introverted and unsure about the future. Headache is the story of AJ whose life is just about to start in the adult world. Starting University and romance on the horizon, can or should she stay there or return to home to be with her parents?

AJ receives an invitation to go to a local bar to perform karaoke and have a night out with the cute girl she has a crush on in her seminar. This causes a dilemma as AJ hates karaoke but wants to go out with her! In life sometimes we have to compromise on things we don’t particularly like to move things forward on the things we do.

Aided by Shakespeare’s skull Yourik in Hamlet. AJ explains which part of the brain is damaged by the impact of the accident. The explanation of how our frontal lobes development takes place as a baby and how fragile the skull is. Unlike the rest of the body, it doesn’t heal by using a plaster! A very well-researched and performed section of the play.

The storyline is written and performed from the heart. Understandably Kerr’s emotions come to the surface at times during the performance and I felt more invested in her storyline. The emotional journey is intense at times and it takes the audience through the traumatic experience suffered by the patients and families who beyond their control find themselves in these situations.
