Groundlings Theatre Portsmouth hosts Puss In Boots directed by Bradley Barlow for their 2023 Pantomime. The funny and entertaining panto for all the family certainly captured the imagination of some of the younger audience members who were cheering and jeering along throughout the performance.

Puss In Boots, played by Erin Billington, appears in Act Two. Billington plays a duel role between Puss and Penny Bucket. Daughter of the Pantomime Dame, Dame Beatrice Bucket (Dominic Mattos). Billington is an ex Butlin’s entertainer, and by watching her rapport on stage with the younger ensemble members, her professionalism shone through.

Penny and her brother Gordon Bucket (Adam Chadwick) run a small business in the village cleaning windows. The pair know most of the things going on in the village and become suspicious of the local Mayor (Daniel McCrohon). When Sophie Sponge (Bryony-Rose Brookman) gets abducted her father Claybourne Bucket (Peter McCrohon) is left in despair over her safety.

Daniel McCrohon brings a fantastic Pantomime “baddie” to the stage. The amount of improvised interaction with the younger audience brought additional comedy to the stage. He genuinely looked surprised that a small group were backing his evil plans!

Who can save the day? Who discovers what the Mayor is really plotting? For the answers to these questions and many more, treat yourself to a trip to Groundlings Theatre.
