He’s Behind You! Ltd is the newly formed Theatre company from the former venue Above the Stagb which closed earlier this year. Their Pantomimes were notoriously well-received. However, this is the first time I have seen one and I haven’t been disappointed.

Sleeping Beauty takes a Prick! Takes the storyline from the original fairytale and brings it straight up to date. Ruler of the mythical land Slutvia Queen Gertrude (Matthew Baldwin) recently gave birth to Prince Arry full name Areola ( Fin Walton). As the celebrations begin his father (Matthew Gent) dies and a curse is placed upon the Prince that if he is pricked (up the bottom) before he is twenty-one then he will fall asleep until woken by his true love, we all know how the storyline goes.

Queen Gertrude shines bright as the star of the show throughout the performance. The brilliantly timed one-liners and sharp tongue make her a pantomime Dame not to mess with. If it happens to be your birthday you “might” get a special mention! Hopefully, Walton will return as the Dame in next year’s Christmas production.

David Shields costume designer has created a Fabulous range of costumes fit for the Queen especially when she goes to the races, it’s reminiscent of the My Fair Lady race scene big hats and tight-fitting dresses. The cast looks incredible.

The Pantomime features seven original musical numbers written by Jon Bradfield. Meet Me in the Garden in Act One certainly offers a host of unexpected lewd events, which bring the cast closer together and the audience plenty of comedy.

This outrageously funny Adults only Pantomime will surely be one of the hot tickets to buy this Christmas and it already has a few sold-out performances. Director Andrew Beckett’s 2023 pantomime will be one to be remembered.

Five Stars.
