Enter the world of cooperate seminars highlighting the importance of well-being and how to balance time management while looking after your mental health. Yet all the time squeezing as much out of the person running these courses with little regard for any of those teachings applying to them. Adaptation:Enough Already explores the unspoken side of the pressure faced by one woman and her quest to reclaim the “girl” trapped inside.

Writer and performer Sam Graham pays homage to Charlie Kaufman and part testimony to Gabor and Daniel Maté’s latest book The Myth of Normal while combining projection work by Scotlands interactive projection artist John McGeoch. In this superb portrayal of the chaos and unrelenting pressures that takes place inside many women’s heads.

Being a woman doesn’t only mean you invariably have a full-time paid job. The expectations are that you have a full-time unpaid job running the home, cooking, cleaning, organising everyone else and so on. All of which goes unnoticed and unappreciated for the majority of the time.

Reclaiming some of who you are is important self-care, taking back the power and fulfilling your passion and destiny. Why should it come at a cost to others they should be helping and working together in the family home to ensure it runs smoothly.

Graham’s performance offers a message to women who on some level will be feeling varied amounts of the same pressures. It is okay to reclaim yourself and say no to enable you to do something for yourself. We are only human too and we never agreed to these expectations they have been handed down to us from generation to generation. It’s up to us to change the horizon and hand down empowerment to future generations of women.

This isn’t a women-liberating performance at the expense of “men bashing” Far from it Graham talks of her husband with love and kindness. It’s about changing perspectives and attitudes towards what defines a woman and looking towards a fairer and kinder shift in attitudes, realising we too can be in a band in our 50s if we so desire.
