Billed as a lip sync competition Split Lip is a dark play that delves into split personalities, and mental health conditions and takes the audience to the edge of their seats. Performed by the multi-talented Ginava.
The switching up and over between characters was completely mesmerising. The dark macabre stage setting along with the demonic serial killer makeup put me on edge at times and I admit a bit scared on one occasion.
Being challenged is part of the Theatre experience and this performance manages to do that on repeat. Quite a few characters possess the host and each one announces their age, sex, and personality traits as a warning guide and allow the audience to know what they are about to experience.
The trigger warning announcement at the start of the performance offers an insight into the topics about to be disclosed from a selection of drugs, sexual assault and bullying.
Split Lip is an experience rather than a performance and one that transforms you into a host of new minds and deeper areas of the psyche as trauma and acceptance are worked through.
