LAYERS by Doublet is a touching story set during ten minutes of the same family day repeated about five to six times as it builds up a family picture adding a new member in each scene.

Conversations and things that are said in the safety of the family dynamics progress. The Family members come and go in the home, events happening and general family irritations cause tempers to fray at times.

The Father’s sons have a lot of patience while trying to do everything to keep the house running smoothly. However, they are tired and need a day off so let him know this.

The generated family members projected onto the net curtain screen is a very effective device. However, the characters are placed too far to the side on occasions and they end up becoming distorted against the wall which is a shame as I’d have liked to have seen them in full.

In the beginning, I found it difficult to follow the repetition of the family and I wasn’t entirely sure what was taking place. My take on the play suggested I was watching the portrayal of someone suffering from dementia. The world around them every day changes a little bit more in each scene. However, I am not clear if that interpretation is correct.
