The Mitfords, controversial sisters in the early C20th whose friendship with Hitler, a marriage to Oswold Mosley, leader of the British Fascists and the one whose communist beliefs led her to fight for the Republicans in the Spanish civil war. Earn a place in the history books.

Joined by Birth divided by their beliefs in a time of great unrest on the brink of a world war. Emma Wilkinson Wright divides her performance between four of the sisters in an hour-long performance. Each sister tells their side of the story with passion and strong belief in their actions.

Wilkinson Wright brings each sister to life as they talk about what they are doing and how they felt about the events going on around them and how they saw one another. A family very much divided.

Based on his historical evidence from the time the performance offers an accurate account of the love, life and beliefs of the sisters. Why and where they chose the directions they did? Stepping back to a time when aristocrats had more standing and power in society than they do nowadays.

Whether you agree with their beliefs or decisions looking back Unity’s friendship with Hitler was extremely blinkered and misjudged. The sisters helped frame a part of history and as women from the aristocracy, their opinions and then their right to vote at thirty would have held more power in decision-making than thousands of others.

If you’re looking for a well-researched and informative historical play this year at the Edinburgh Fringe then The Mitfords is a good performance to catch. For more information and booking tickets please visit the link below.
