Have you ever walked past someone and drunk in their scent without thinking or been triggered by a smell that transports you back to a place of darkness? SCENT written and performed by Stacey Cullen takes the audience on a journey through a catalogue of scents through Jamie’s deepest memories and emotions.

Each wine has a scent that Jamie who was once an up-and-coming sommelier used to identify and match wines to each meal and recognise wine through their bouquet. She now uses her craft to navigate herself through life after she experiences a life-shattering tragedy.

The smell of rain and the earthy aroma are remembered with pain and delight in equal measures. The couple use to embrace the smell together now leaving Jamie alone to reminisce and remember their memories of their final moments.

Cullens’ warm and reflective performance of her late partner is encapsulated with love and alongside a sense of deep loss. Her respect for his memory never faltered. Although the subject is one of grief it’s such a tender story you become absorbed by her soft tones.

This is one of the most beautiful stories I have heard about dealing with the untimely loss of a loved one. You come away from the play feeling her love and warmth for him, creating a powerful lasting memory.
