Standing proud and dependable on the outskirts of Mostar in Yugoslavia the Old Bridge produced by the Tower Theatre Company in Stoke Newington brings this powerful production to the Edinburgh Fringe 2023.
Narrated by Emina (Twyla Doone) who watches from the side as the three friends become four and their innocence of youth centres around the safety of the bridge. Alongside the Community diving competition, the waters below appear calm yet underneath the current is cruel and treacherous.
Love, friendship, and mundane everyday life bores Mina(Arabella Hornby), she wants to travel and live. Nothing happens or changes in Mostar to keep her stimulated. However, meeting Mili (Tommy Saunders) whose lives and renovates in his Mother’s old flat, falling in love changes her outlook slightly, and the pair embark on making plans.

As the war begins changes are subtle coffee being in shorter demand affects the couple most, while shortages are becoming more severe as the hostility increased. War, and shells dropped become normal everyday life and self-preservation becomes paramount.
Still a part of modern-day history Old Bridge allows audiences to understand the devastating effects war has on everyday people like you and me simply getting on with their lives. Yugoslavia saw a country divided and destroyed with far too many innocents killed and fleeing the country they once loved.
A truly moving and thought-provoking play by a talented cast of five.
