Erin Murray Quinlan (Erin Murray Quinlan) is attempting to finish enough of her new musical about Ernest Hemingway to pitch it to the producers. However, with the author taking up residency inside her head Brain Hemingway there’s a struggle between them for her to get peace to finish the task at hand.
Ernest Hemingway (Evan Quinlan) comes to life and without taking a breath at times pollutes Quinlans every thought and prevents her from working to match her forty-five-minute deadline to create a work of art.
Hemingway has the desired effect on me at times too as I would like a break from him talking at her to hear more about what she is creating and previous works rather than the author’s ego taking centre stage and dominating her every thought.
The art of writing and deadlines has been captured with honesty. The procrastination excuses, staying in your pyjamas for days as you’re not going anywhere accurately portray days when the creative momentum has given up.
Personally, I am unfamiliar with Hemingway’s personal life I found the performance informative as well as highly entertaining. Although I am not convinced Hemingway is the best of subjects for a musical.
