Blood of the Lamb offers an insight into the different attitudes and laws in each state of America. The heartbreaking story explains the complications around losing a baby through no fault of the mother and falling ill on a plane. The lottery of where you land determines the treatment you receive.
Nessa (Dana Brooke) is confused, alone, and dazed as lawyer Val (Elizabeth Nunziato) rushes her into a small bunker room in the Texas airport. Answers to why she has been taken there are slow to come forward and we are left wondering what crime can Nessa have committed on a flight for the pilot to make an emergency landing and for her to require an emergency Lawyer.
Val explains coldly and factually that she represents the rights of the foetus and how the state of Texas will process the death and disposal of it.
The tension and anger could be felt within the auditorium as the pair discussed how the laws and decisions taking place over the future of a lady are decided by white privileged male Americans who believe they know what’s best!
Each state in the USA is governed by different laws and regulations and anti-abortion laws in the state of Texas are in force. Even though the baby has died she is still expected to give birth naturally. Which leaves the expectant Mother at high risk of infections and death!
The multi-layered and complex storyline evokes emotions and gasps in the auditorium as any good topical political play should. The lack of care and empathy shown towards a grief-stricken Mother was for me the hardest part to watch.
