Roger Sutherland (Alex Dee) is busy setting up his class for the evening in a Primary School classroom. At first, it’s not obvious what he is about to teach until in walks Gary Brock (Kurt Lucas). Who is excited to see the seasoned actor Roger, whose taking the acting Master Class lesson!

Brock is a confident and brash Australian whose no stranger to the acting world and during his younger days was a famous Australian soap star, although the audience is never sure which one although you have a choice of two popular ones that it might have been that made it across to the United Kingdom.

There’s a raw honesty running throughout Master Class as Roger looks back over his career from performing Shakespeare roles, film roles and in his prime was very famous. However, he is now reduced to earning extra money in very unglamorous venues to avoid the Inland Revenue and keep himself in work (as such) teaching acting.

Director Luke Adamson brings out the fragility in Roger and how he is navigating getting older and losing his career direction. Alongside Gary whose wondering at first what he is going to learn from these classes! As it all sounds like obvious common sense to start with.

Writer Tim Connery adds twists and turns throughout the dialogue. Just as you think you know what could happen it takes you down another turn. Dee and Lucas have a strong rapport on stage and their storytelling feels organic and comes from the voices of experience.
